The Best New Australian Architecture Overseas Unveiled
Australia’s best new international architecture has been revealed in the Australian Institute of Architects International Chapter Architecture Awards – the only awards program in the country that honours exceptional buildings designed by Australian architects (and Australian trained international students) situated overseas. Now in their 18th year, the awards are a celebration Australia’s contributions to the global built environment.
The awards recognise the unique architecture overseas that is also inherently Australian and the innovative work of Australian Institute of Architect’s international members.
Jury Chair, Justin Hill LFRAIA, MSIA commented on the significance of these projects.
“2026 saw a resurgence in both the variety and number of entries in the RAIA International Chapter Awards. Overseas members seem to have finally come through the dark period we saw during and after Covid, or at least their projects have, where many had been delayed, cancelled, or re-cast,” said Hill.
“But the architect’s journey in each presented project this year always involved a celebrated and beguiling story, always rich in creative experience and imagination. Each dealt adroitly with the unique demands that come with the greater complexities involved in overseas work.”
“Beauty is there in this years’ crop as well, in spades. I guess the big picture story behind this is how our member architects really do stand tall in the world today. And how lateral thinking might become a creative force, as well, because some submitted projects, in difficult terrain as it were, really did hit a higher bar.”
“The variety of submitted projects also gave rise to very spirited jury (peer) discussions for the 2026 awards. I would like to congratulate all entrants for posing those challenges, and to thank our jury for their professionalism in their deliberations.”
“In that process we also discovered areas where we can build the International Chapter Awards going forwards, predominately by recognising overlooked awards and prizes. In doing so, we may unlock further past and present works and bring these into the public recognition they really do deserve.”

- Justin Hill LFRAIA, MSIA (Jury Chair)
- Anuradha Chatterjee Associate RAIA | RV University
