The design of this building aims to provide solutions to key important design challenges normally associated in commercial buildings, summarised and resolved, as follows:
a breakdown of the typical long rectilinear curtain walls by the creation of perimeter “zig-zag” wall profiles based on the design inspiration from traditional ancient Chinese folding screens;
the application of staggered, vertical mullions echoing the weaving pattern of the building material of interlaced bamboo, used in traditional Chinese houses;
the articulation of the four corners of the building by creating cantilevered bay windows to open up to the views surrounding this site with the design inspiration from traditional Chinese sailing boats (i.e. Junks) of Hong Kong; and,
the creation of easily maintained, usable and attractive landscape areas on the Roof, 2/F open Communal Area and within 20 metres height of the natural ground line to assist with the Hong Kong BEAM and WELL Platinum Certifications.
In December 2021, CLP appointed INARC as the Lead Design Architect for our new headquarters building and the Interior Designer for all public areas throughout this building.
I am very pleased to say that you and your team have not only surpassed the demanding expectations of this challenge, but you have created an exceptional building with its unique Architecture and complimentary Interiors including the wonderful selection of materials and details.
