Designing for Disaster: How Australian Architects Can Create Resilient and Sustainable Housing for future generations
Tuesday 6 August
5.30 pm AEST | 3.30pm AWST | 5.00 pm ACST
Climate change is not a distant threat, but a present reality. Australia is facing more frequent and intense heatwaves, droughts, floods, bushfires, and storms. How can architects and designers respond to these challenges and create resilient, adaptable, and sustainable housing solutions?
In this Design Talk, Alison Cunningham and Michelle Cramer will have you imagine the Australian homes and households of the future and challenge you to think differently about housing in extreme conditions, and how you can contribute to creating more liveable and sustainable environments for future generations.

To be eligible for prizes and to compete in Super Studio, participants must make an online submission and attend the presentation day in their state or territory to present their proposal to the jury.
Mandatory components to complete (national level)
One winner from each state level will be selected, and from this group, the national jury will announce a shortlist. This short list of teams will be invited to present again to the national jury in a live online presentation on Friday, 15 August. The national winner will be announced in this session.
The national competition brief will be revealed on Thursday, 31 July, 1 pm AEST
This online session is an opportunity to ask questions and hear from the team that wrote the brief.
It is strongly advised that all participants attend this session. If you cannot, the brief will be shared post-event.
Mentoring is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended all participants attend their nominated face-to-face and virtual mentoring sessions.
This is a chance for your team to have a one-on-one mentoring session with an industry professional to develop your Super Studio design and concept.

All Super Studio Participants get the chance to present their idea to the local jury and fellow Super Studio teams at the presentation day in their state/territory. The local jury will announce the winner.
SONA reps in each state/territory help to plan the presentation day to make it a fun and supportive environment. Typically food and drinks will be provided with a chance to enjoy the experience and celebrate with other Super Studio teams.
The winning projects from the state and territory levels will be assessed by the national jury. Four teams will be shortlisted and invited to present their proposal again in a live online session on Friday, 15 August 9 am AEST. Following the presentations, the national jury will deliberate and announce the national winner.
