Institute welcomes new GANSW Abbie Galvin

The Australian Institute of Architects is delighted to learn of the appointment of Abbie Galvin to the role of the Government Architect NSW. An eminent architect and Fellow of the Institute, Ms Galvin has distinguished herself through her portfolio of projects and through her involvement in architectural education, advisory panels and initiatives such as the creation of Sydney Open.

‘The appointment of a new Government Architect has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to welcome such a capable and committed architect to this tremendously important position,’ said NSW Chapter President Kathlyn Loseby.

‘The Government Architect and her office can bring huge expertise and value to the built environment. We will continue to advocate for the position being given appropriate voice within government to ensure the best outcomes for the public.’

Ms Galvin has most recently held the position of principal architect at BVN. She is a registered architect in NSW, Victoria, ACT and SA.

‘We congratulate Ms Galvin on this appointment and we look forward to working with her as she builds on the great work led by her predecessor Peter Poulet and by Acting Government Architects Olivia Hyde and Ben Hewett,’ continued Ms Loseby.

‘In particular, we look forward to seeing the Better Placed suite of design guides finalised and implemented across the state. We will also continue to support GANSW’s efforts to see good design appropriately valued – indeed demanded – by government and other clients on account of the manifold social, economic, cultural and environmental benefits it can deliver across the whole community.’
