Below are details of the positions for election.
There are two (2) Nationally-Elected Councillor
National Council comprises the following elected Presidents – National (along with the President Elect and the Immediate Past President), each Chapter, EmAGN and SONA, as well as six Nationally-Elected Councillors from the Institute’s general membership.
Nationally-Elected Councillors are elected for a three-year term, Chapter Presidents are two years, and EmAGN and SONA Presidencies are one year.
National Council acts as an advisory body reporting to the Board, providing strategic direction and policy development. National Council meets at least four times a year, with some meetings in person and others via electronic means.
The successful candidates from this election take office at the first National Council meeting in 2026, and their term will conclude immediately prior to the first meeting of 2029.

Chapter President roles for election this year are ACT, NT, QLD and VIC.
Eligible members are invited to nominate or be nominated for the role of President of their Chapter for a two-year term commencing at the first Chapter Council meeting in 2026. The elected President for each Chapter will also represent their Chapter on National Council.
Eligible nominees must be registered architects in the Chapter state or territory. Current Chapter Presidents seeking re-election must re-nominate.
As part of its recognition and appreciation for the time and effort each President dedicates to their role, the Institute’s Board recently approved (an initiative endorsed by National Council) a Presidents’ Fund of up to $15,000 per annum. This amount is available for each officeholder in their capacity as a Chapter President, as well as for the National President, National President-Elect, Immediate Past President, EmAGN National President and SONA National President.

There are five (5) vacant positions on each Chapter Council to be filled through this 2025 election.
Chapter Councillors are elected for a two (2) year term where the Chapter Council’s key roles are to identify the strategic priorities for the Chapter aligned with the Institute’s Strategic Plan and respond to issues relevant to the profession and Institute members within the Chapter.

Voting in the Institute’s 2024 Annual General Elections is now open for National and Chapter election streams where there are more nominees than the number of positions to be filled.
Voting for the following elections streams opened as at 9:00am AEDT on Wednesday, 27 November 2024:
Voting closes strictly at 4:00am AEDT on Wednesday, 17 December 2024.
There are two (2) vacancies on National Council in this 2023 election, with thirteen (13) candidates.
The election for these National Council positions is contested and a vote must be held.
Those Members with voting rights are able to vote for their preferred candidate(s) in order of numerical preference by selecting: 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. Voters may indicate a minimum of two preferences (“1”, “2”) and it is optional to vote for any remaining candidates.
Votes will be counted using the Optional Multiple-Preferential system. In this system, all numbered voting preferences indicated, up to the total number of candidates to be elected which is 2, are called primary votes and are equal in value. All other numbered preferences beyond those primary votes will be used to allocate each voter’s preferences.
This year, a vote will be held for the Chapter President role in the NSW and INT Chapters.
NSW Chapter has two (2) nominees.
INT Chapter has two (2) nominees.
Eligible members are invited to vote on the candidates for the role of Chapter President in their respective Chapter for a two-year term. The elected President will represent their Chapter on National Council.

Eligible members must be residents in the respective Chapter territory to vote in a Chapter President election.
One nomination was received for the Chapter President role in the case of the SA, TAS and WA Chapters and therefore each of those candidates will be declared as elected, uncontested.
A vote is not required for the Chapter President roles in those Chapters where the term of office of the current Chapter President / Chair ends early in 2026 (ACT, NT and VIC).
QLD By-Election Nominations
The period for nominating and endorsing a candidate closes strictly at 9:00am AEDT on Wednesday 18 December 2024. Please nominate as soon as you can before then to allow time for your supporters to support you and for your nomination to then be verified by the Institute as a valid nomination.
New South Wales Chapter
This year, a vote will be held for Chapter Councillor positions in NSW. There are nine (9) nominees.
Queensland Chapter
This year, a vote will be held for Chapter Councillor positions in QLD. There are seven (7) nominees.
International Chapter
This year, a vote will be held for Chapter Councillor positions for INT Chapter. There are seven (7) nominees.
Eligible members are invited to vote on the candidates for the roles on Chapter Council in 2025.
