Casa Acton | Archier

Residential Architecture - Houses (New)

Casa Acton is a moveable 53sqm bush dwelling in Acton designed and built by Josh FitzGerald, a founding director of Archier, along with his partner Millie Ashton.

It imbues a simple SIPs construction, detailed and anchored with locally sourced sandstone, timbers and plants, inviting you to slow down and engage with the landscape.

Placed on the edge of a rural family property in Tasmania, Casa Acton is an experiment in cost-efficient and moveable housing.

It combines an immersive understanding of the surrounding landscape with an inquisitive curiosity to build a simple yet engaging residence.

Client perspective:
“Casa Acton began as an experiment of restraint and practicality; a means to expedite our longer-term goals. It needed to suit our basic needs and nothing more. Surprisingly though, this introspection has quite literally changed the way we live.

The singular living space was daunting to design but is now familiar, comforting, and inclusive; the raw materiality is tactile, everchanging and reminiscent of the effort that went into constructing it.

Casa Acton has a sense of weight and time that is inextricably entwined with our daily routines.”
