EOI – National Committee for Gender Equity (NCGE)

Call for expressions of interest: new committee members

The Australian Institute of Architects NCGE is seeking three (3) new committee members to join this active committee for a 2-year term.  We welcome diverse representation on the committee and invite expressions of interest from all Institute members, including A+ Practice members, EmAGN and SONA.

To ensure diverse representation on the committee, we particularly invite nominations from ACT, NSW, NT, SA, TAS, and SONA members.

We are looking for new members who are passionate about gender, equity and diversity.

In joining the NCGE you will actively participate in delivering current and emerging initiatives to assist National Council, other Institute committees and taskforce’s meet objectives which support members through the lens of Gender, Equity and Diversity.

The Committee is strategically recruiting to support the following projects/activities:

  1. GENDER & EQUITY TOOLKITS: Develop of Institute-specific toolkit/s addressing gender equity in design and the built environment profession
  2. RESEARCH: Investigating new future research opportunities in the field of gender, equity and diversity
  3. HONOURS: Undertake annual diversity assessment of nomination and award of institute prizes. Actively participate in the nomination of Institute prizes and Australian Honours to positively contribute towards broader representation of nominees
  4. FUTURE LEADERSHIP: potential co-chair opportunity commencing mid 2025 with a one-year transition with current co-chair in the future.

Other Committee key tasks in 2024 will include:

  1. POLICY: D&I Policy approval and implementation; with a future focus on industry development education and toolkits
  2. COMMUNICATIONS: Alongside the Institute’s Marcomms team, develop website rebrand strategy, social media campaigns, and engage with members via ‘Communities’ on matters of gender equity, diversity and inclusiveness
  3. TERMS OF REFERENCE: Review scope and name of committee to reflect its membership and broadened focus
  4. Undertake periodic reviews of the Institute’s Gender Equity Policy and Acumen notes
  5. Advise National Council on matters related to the existing Gender Equity Policy and incoming Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

COMMITMENT

New members commence their 2-year term on 21 May by attending a digital strategy session to set the agenda for the NCGE for the year ahead. The NCGE also convenes monthly (one-hour via zoom) and on a needs basis for subcommittees and taskforces. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 1pm AEST (11am AWST). Communications are predominantly via Zoom, email and Microsoft Teams.

Obligations

Committee members are expected to be active participants, conduct themselves and participate in the NCGE activities in an accountable and professional manner, as per the Institute’s Code of Conduct.

Suitability

Committee members must be members of the Australian Institute of Architects.

EOI PROCESS – HOW TO APPLY

Submission requirements:

  • 1 page EOI cover letter which: explains your interest in joining the committee, details your suitability, demonstrates your capacity to meet the commitments and obligations and indicates whether you would be interested in co-chairing the committee
  • CV (maximum 3 pages) which demonstrates your relevant knowledge, training and experience and how you may add value to the committee’s outcomes
  • 150 word bio and photograph ready for the committee’s website.
