The project, which will be known as extensions of the M4 and M8, will seamlessly connect the M4 at Haberfield to the M8 at St Peters, creating the longest continuous underground motorway in Australia.
The Campbell Road Ventilation Facility is a synthesis between art and architecture with a 300 metre long artwork forming the building’s façade. The artwork ‘Movement of Shells, Movement of Time’ by Aboriginal artists Esme Timbery and Marilyn Russell showcases local culture to a wide audience, on a daily basis.
The project provides us, as an infrastructure operator, with an opportunity to use the construction of a utilitarian building as a vehicle to reach out to the Indigenous community in a very visible way. The building, which is essentially an artwork, showcases the culture of the local community and keeps in view to a wide audience every day. We take pride in the quality of the building and the synthesis between the art and the architecture. The building has been thoughtfully designed to have its greatest impact to the surrounding public.
