To support you through the challenges of the economy, we’ve worked hard to minimise 2024 fee increases. 

  • Practising architect members will see a fee increase of only $14 across the year with smaller increases for Emerging Architects and Academic members.
  • The Emerging architect fee has been extended from 2 to now 3 years after first registration accessible for those first registered in 2021 or later. 
  • Concession fees for retired members and those taking parental or post-graduate study leave are frozen at 2023 rates.
  • Introduction of a new concessional fee for those working 2 days or less per week.
Concessional Fee

You may be eligible for a discounted fee if you have one of the following conditions:

  • Retired
  • Emerging architect (first registered in the last three years 2021-2023)
  • Working part-time at 0.4 FTE or less
  • Working reduced hours due to parental or post-graduate leave
  • Facing special circumstances like prolonged unemployment, ill health, or financial hardship

2024 renewal notices will be issued on 7 December 2023 with fees due for payment no later than 16 January 2024

If you already have a registered card linked to your membership payments, simply update your card details in the My Membership section of your profile via the member portal by 28 November. 

Individual members can pay either by one annual payment or in four quarterly instalments. If you wish to change your payment frequency for 2024, please update your preference in the My Membership section of your profile via the member portal by 28 November.

Are you an actively practicing registered architect who is a sole practitioner or do you own an architectural practice in Australia? A+ Practice Membership might be a great option for you.

A+ Practice Membership provides access to the full suite of member benefits plus exclusive access to the full catalogue of Australian Standards and the National Construction Code online, HR Hub Help Desk and the opportunity to market your architectural business on the Institute’s own Find An Architect website, along with increased member discounts.

Non-practicing architects have the option to choose between the Member and Associate categories. Associate category members receive the same benefits as Member category members, with the exception of no longer being able to use a Member badge and different post-nominals (Associate RAIA). If you would like to convert from the Member category to Associate, please email membership@architecture.com.au with confirmation of your non-practicing status attached.

Member category members who attained architectural registration with one of the architect registrations boards in Australia for the first time with the last three years (2021 – 2024) are eligible for the emerging architect fee. Submit your application by 28 November to be considered prior to 2024 membership renewal. If you have missed the 28 November deadline please contact membership@architecture.com.au.

Concessional fees are available to members working the equivalent of 2 days or less per week. Submit your application by 28 November to be considered prior to 2024 membership renewal.

The Institute defines ‘retired’ as spending no more than 20% of your time (or one day per week) on income earning activities. The Institute’s Retired provision provides current members with the opportunity to apply for a reduced membership fee, while retaining all the rights and privileges of full individual membership. Submit your application by 28 November to be considered prior to 2024 membership renewal. 

If you have already been approved for the Retired provision, and your circumstances continue to meet the eligibility requirements, you will continue to receive the reduced Retired membership fee rate in 2024 and do not need to re-apply. If you wish to confirm your ongoing eligibility, Please email the membership team at membership@architecture.com.au.

Parental Leave  

The Institute provides special dispensation to those who work 20 hours or less per week to care for children under 5 years of age. Submit your application before 28 November to be considered prior to 2024 membership renewal. 

Post Graduate Leave  

Current members who have reduced or left work due to undertaking post-graduate studies to further their career in the built environment are eligible for the Post Graduate Leave discounted fee option. Submit your application before 28 November to be considered prior to 2024 membership renewal.
