My name is Adam Johnson-Kain, and I am the new WA Chapter State Manager at the Institute. I am writing to formally introduce myself and share a little bit about the work I’ll be doing here.
As the State Manager, I will be responsible for providing leadership in managing member service delivery, efficient operation and delivery of the Chapters wide range of events and programs, as well as utilising State resources and contacts to achieve the Institute’s strategic objectives.
I am eager to work directly with our President Sandy Anghie and chapter staff Xahlia Jeffcote and Harpreet Kaur, with focus on new education and training opportunities, member engagement events and the President’s new taskforces and workshop incentives.
While I was applying for this role, I noticed the dedication, pride and passion of all the Institute members, which made me all the more excited to accept this role.

Prior to accepting this position I’ve spent 20 years working within the built environment sector, and have worked with major suppliers in the roles of Architectural Business Development Manager, Executive Recruiter & Architectural Marketing. Although these experiences have been very rewarding I look forward to focussing on the goals of the Institute and members improving our built environment and the communities we call home by promoting quality, responsible, sustainable design advocating on behalf of the profession for the benefit of all Australians.
Bit about me personally, I’m married to Shohan, an amazing Senior Associate Landscape Architect, Design & Project Delivery Manager. We have two boys, and our family pet is a very daft mini bull terrier. Originally from the UK, I also lived and worked in the Eastern States with a number of years in Brisbane and some time in Melbourne and Sydney. I enjoy home improvement and have renovated a few houses over the years, Perth is now very much home and I love the pace of life and natural beauty we are so lucky to have on our doorstep. Hobbies involve surviving parenthood and trying to not traumatise my children.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly, adam.johnson-kain@architecture.com.au. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
