It is with great sadness that we inform the membership of the passing of Paul Ashdowne Gilby on Wednesday, 18 January 2023.
Paul was an excellent architect who was a sustained contributor to the local profession and a strong advocate for universal accessibility.
Throughout his long career, Paul dedicated his architectural work to designing socially minded architecture to enrich its users’ lives and experiences. Through this primary endeavour, Paul (particularly in his early days) experimented with form, structure and material, producing a range of idiosyncratic works with complex plan and sectional arrangements that, whilst not necessarily sitting neatly in the historical narrative of Australian architecture, are full of valuable lessons for how to sensitively and joyously design, build and dwell on this wonderful southern island of lutruwita / Tasmania.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held at St Clements Anglican Church, 100 Beach Road, Kingston, on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, commencing at 2.30 pm.
