The Institute partners with Alspec to advance industry training for young architects

The Australian Institute of Architects is thrilled to announce a new partnership with leading Australian aluminium systems specialist, Alspec.

The collaboration will see Alspec support training and development programs for Australia’s built environment professionals, as well as providing sponsorship for the Institute’s state-based awards and principal sponsorship for the National Conference.

A particular focus will be on building education initiatives to further sustainability in construction.

Institute Interim Chief Executive Officer Barry Whitmore said the partnership would foster important industry links for architects, while enabling professional development opportunities.

“We are very pleased to welcome Alspec as a major partner with the Institute,” Mr Whitmore said.

“It is through partnerships like these that we can continue to offer leading programs to connect our profession and further best practice.”

ALSPEC will also support the Institute’s national student membership body, the Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA), and the Emerging Architects and Graduate Network (EmAGN).

ALSPEC Managing Director Paul Nakhle said the collaboration would highlight sustainability and innovation in construction materials.

“The partnership with the Institute highlights the importance of implementing sustainable initiatives in the built environment, with current and ongoing development in material sourcing, operations, transportation and product solutions,” Mr Nakhle said.

“Alspec believes in the long-term sustainability benefits of aluminium as it is strong, lightweight and 100 per cent recyclable. We have focused on environmentally sustainable developments for our operations including rainwater harvesting, LED lighting solutions, tailored solar systems to accommodate charging stations for cars and trucks, and external shading devices to mitigate heat loading.”

Alspec was established in 1974 and now has more than 650 employees in 14 branches across the country. The company designs and develops innovative and quality architectural systems and hardware solutions for the residential, commercial and industrial markets.

These will be on show at the soon-to-be-developed Alspec Industrial Business Park, a prime industrial estate in Western Sydney, focused on sustainability and design excellence. For more information contact the Alspec Development Manager on 0407 225 416.
