As part of its regular and ongoing quality assurance process, the Institute of Architects HR Advisory Service has identified a small discrepancy in its wage guide resource for the Architects Award 2020. The error specifically concerns the minimum hourly rate of pay for the following employee classification:
Students of Architecture who are 21 years of age and over, with less than 3 years of experience – permanent (full-time or part-time)
Who this Stop Press applies to: Those members who employ a Student of Architecture who are 21 years of age and over, with less than 3 years of experience – permanent (full-time or part time) and have accessed the HR Advisory Service Wage Guide since 1 July 2023.
The error and the updated correct rate of pay are outlined below:
Listed rate of pay: $21.61
Correct rate of pay: $22.61
The HR Advisory Service extends its sincere apologies to all members for the inconvenience caused. While every effort is made by the Service to ensure a thorough quality checking process is undertaken when creating the wage guide, human error has ultimately led to this rare occurrence where an incorrect amount was transcribed.
Since becoming aware of this error, the HR Advisory Service has reviewed all wage guide resources to ensure these present accurate rates of pay and there have been no further errors identified from this review.
Advice for Members
The wages contained in the wage guide came into effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023. Employers should examine whether they engaged any Students of Architecture employees between 1 July 2023 to present, who meet the relevant criteria listed above. If so, the employee’s pay records should be assessed to determine whether the incorrect minimum hourly rate of pay was used. Where there is a discrepancy, any back payment should be calculated and paid to the employee as soon as possible.
