Gender, Equity & Diversity Committee – EOI

The Australian Institute of Architects VIC Chapter is seeking committee members to join this active committee for a two-year term. The Gender, Equity & Diversity Committee will be co-chaired by Molly Hibberd (Associate, Edition Office) & Gumji Kang (Studio Director, Snøhetta). 

We are looking for members who are passionate about Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity and want to make real impact to our industry. 

We welcome diverse representation on the committee and invite expressions of interest from all Institute members, including A+ Practice members, EmAGN and SONA. 

In joining the AIA VIC Chapter GED Committee you will actively participate in delivering current and emerging initiatives to assist the Chapter Council, other Institute committees and taskforces to meet objectives which support members through the lens of Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity. 

The Committee is strategically recruiting to support the following projects/activities: 

  1. PARENTAL LEAVE TOOLKITS: Develop of Institute-specific toolkit/s addressing gaps in parental leave support particular for small & medium practices. 

  2. RESEARCH: Investigating new future research opportunities in the field of gender, equity and diversity
     
  3. HONOURS: Undertake annual diversity assessment of nomination and award of institute prizes. Actively participate in the nomination of Institute prizes and Australian Honours to positively contribute towards broader representation of nominees 
  4. EVENTS: Support the curation and planning of various events such as International Women’s Day and other honours events. 

  5. FUTURE LEADERSHIP: potential co-chair opportunity commencing mid 2025 with a one-year transition with current co-chair in the future. 

 

EOI PROCESS – How to Apply 

Submission Requirements: 

  • 1 page EOI cover letter that should address the following: 
  • Why you are interested in joining the committee and what does Gender, Equity, Diversity & Inclusivity mean to you? 
  • What qualities make you suitable to join this committee? What is something unique you can bring? 
  • Are there specific areas of advocacy you would like to focus on as part of the committee? 
  • What prior involvement have you had with the AIA or similar organisations? 
  • CV (maximum 3 pages) which demonstrates your relevant knowledge, training and experience and how you may add value to the Committee’s outcomes. 

 

Role & Responsibilities: 

  • New members commence their 2-year term from June 2025 
  • The committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 12pm AEST. Communications are predominantly via Zoom, email and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Committee members are required to attend a minimum of 75% of meetings throughout the year.

  • Committee members are expected to be active participants, conduct themselves and participate in the VIC AIA GED activities in an accountable and professional manner, as per the Institute’s Code of Conduct.
