From the Tasmanian Executive Director

The Tasmanian Architecture Awards are always a particularly joyful project for our team – we love seeing your incredible design work and we are always amazed at the quality of the projects. This year is no exception and the only difference is I am getting this feedback from around the country and overseas. The online format saw us share the work of our membership with a much broader audience (with 254 views on the evening and over 1500 further views so far) and the feedback has been astounding. Thank you all for putting your work into the public domain – it is a leap of faith sometimes and does not always result in what you have hoped. But thank you all for supporting the process and putting in the huge investment it takes to enter the awards.

I would like to thank the entrants, juries, the awards task group, Tasmanian Chapter staff and all our partners. On so many levels this year took great trust as we agilely transitioned to a completely unknown and new format. Its success has been because of the belief of all of you and you have my sincerest gratitude.

Finally to those who received named awards, awards and commendations, my heartfelt congratulations. The work speaks for itself but also talks about the character and nature of this place. It is an absolute honour to share and celebrate your achievements. Our friends at The Design Files have showcased the entries in the residential categories, and you can see them here.

On another note, I really appreciate your very honest feedback on how COVID-19 has, and continues to affect your businesses. We will be sharing this with many levels of government in the coming days. You can view the April survey results here, and the May results here. This will be an ongoing challenge for us all and your insight strengthens our resolve to continue to push for architecture as a part of the recovery process.
