As you know the Chapter regularly engages with our state government stakeholders and there are some developments in this space that are worth mentioning.
You would probably be aware that the Tasmanian Government has significant financial challenges due to an ongoing operational deficit as well as a shortage of community housing. In address these issues, a new government department, Building Tasmania, has been established, which includes rationalising corporate services and integration of Homes Tasmania into the new agency.
Indications from Minister Kerry Vincent and the CEO of Homes Tasmania is that members can expect to see changes in procurement seeking to expedite delivery of government capital projects and manage costs. While there is currently no certainty about exactly what these changes might entail, the Chapter will continue to advocate for procurement methodologies that include architectural input, achieve value for money and generally improve the liveability of the built environment. We will keep members updated on developments.
