Recent changes have been announced by the Treasurer earlier in June, in relation to upcoming enhancements to the Department of Treasury and Finance’s Prequalification Scheme. These enhancements deliver the Government’s commitment to contemporise the Prequalification Scheme for building and construction contractors and consultants.
New online application forms have been developed to streamline and increase the efficiency of the application process. While the current forms will remain on the Treasury website for an initial transition period, applicants are encouraged to use the new online forms for both new applications and renewals.
In addition, changes have also been made to improve the flexibility of the Prequalification Scheme’s financial requirements for complex company structures. Where an entity is part of a parent/group company structure and not required to prepare its own financial statements, Treasury may assess the financial capacity of a parent company. Applicants are encouraged to discuss options for providing the financial statements of parent companies with Treasury as part of the application process.
The Guidelines for contractors and consultants are being refreshed and updated to reflect these changes. The Guidelines also include new, more transparent information on the financial capacity assessment process for contractors and measures used to assess an applicant’s financial position.
The new guidelines and online forms will be available on the Tasmanian Government Purchasing website from 1 July 2026. A short fact sheet is now available here, providing an overview of the changes.
Feedback from industry has assisted in the development of these updates to the Scheme, and we appreciate the ongoing contributions. The next phase of the review of Treasury’s Prequalification Scheme will be focused on ensuring the scope of the Scheme continues to meet the needs of government and industry. In coming weeks, feedback will be sought from industry to inform this next stage of the review.
