In 2019, we asked what you value in your membership, so in the coming year, in line with what you highlighted, we will deliver:

  • An online HR Hub with advice and guidance for every stage of your career, including an extensive wellbeing section
  • Continued and robust advocacy on procurement, contract conditions, building regulation, climate change and urban design
  • A national mentoring program providing one on one mentoring opportunities
  • Advisory notes on building safety, cladding and insurance
  • A monthly membership fee payment option (additional fees and conditions apply).

These new services are in addition to the ongoing tools and services we deliver for everyday practices, including:

  • Over 700 Acumen Practice Notes and Contracts
  • CPD seminars – face-to-face and online
  • Australia’s most esteemed architecture awards program
  • Industry news, trends and advice
  • Networking opportunities
  • Discounts on services and products.

Our communities and environment face immense challenges and urgently need sustainable and intelligent design. Architects are part of the solution, and yet our profession faces its own challenges and uncertainty.

With your support in 2020, we will amplify the work we do on the issues that matter.

With our new dedicated policy and advocacy team, we will develop a Code of Novation with broader industry support. Building on the significant traction we received recently through the 7:30 Report and Four Corners interviews, we will work publicly and tirelessly throughout every chapter to advance our industry in 2020 and beyond.

We led our industry in the climate marches in September this year, but there is much work to do to face this critical challenge of our times, and to embrace this challenge, as this is also an opportunity for our profession to lead by example.

Next year we turn 90, and we will celebrate all that we have achieved as a profession. It’s an opportunity to forge ahead on and affirm our position, evolving our profession to face the future with confidence.

Our collective agency is only as strong as our collective voice.

Helen Lochhead
National President

The Australian Institute of Architects acknowledges First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters, and skies of the continent now called Australia.

We express our gratitude to their Elders and Knowledge Holders whose wisdom, actions and knowledge have kept culture alive.

We recognise First Nations peoples as the first architects and builders. We appreciate their continuing work on Country from pre-invasion times to contemporary First Nations architects, and respect their rights to continue to care for Country.
