Situated in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, York & Co is a compelling example of how adaptive reuse and sensitive contemporary design can coexist within a rich urban fabric. The project unites 32–34 York Street, a nine-storey 1886 warehouse originally built for Robert Reid & Co, with a newly constructed extension at 36 York Street to create a cohesive, light-filled workplace.
Honouring the building’s Victorian origins, the design clarifies historical layers while introducing a refined glazed facade that references the rhythm of neighbouring Art Deco and heritage structures. Glass reinforced concrete battens and red masonry echo the material warmth of the precinct, while modern interventions bring light, texture, and urban connection.
Internally, York & Co supports a hybrid, human centred workplace with flexible spaces for collaboration and wellbeing. The result is a timeless architectural statement, one that breathes new life into Sydney’s Western Heritage Precinct while embracing innovation and contemporary work culture.
