Victoria
The Wonthaggi Hospital expansion provides the growing community and visiting holiday-makers contemporary healthcare facilities that are patient-centered and familiar. The design simplifies patient journeys, improves accessibility, and creates intuitive wayfinding to make a calmer, more welcoming, and healthier place.
The new building creates a distinct ‘front door’ for visitors and clear wayfinding to the emergency department. Together with the existing hospital buildings the new project creates a healthcare campus that has been master planned for future expansion and change. The new building includes an inpatient unit, operating theatres, an emergency department, a short-stay unit, and support and staff spaces.
Many spaces allow patients, carers, and staff access to ‘step out’ from the busy day-to-day hospital to find landscape views and fresh air. The surrounding environment is reflected throughout the project, creating a new state-of-the-art facility designed to also provide the familiarity of the local community, town, and landscapes.
The Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion has transformed the delivery of health care in Bass Coast. The design enhances the patient, staff, and visitor experience from the moment they walk into our wonderful entry atrium space. Views out to the landscape and historical references to Wonthaggi are also incorporated throughout.
The Bass Coast Community is one of Victoria’s fastest growing regions. This project will not only entice more healthcare workers to join our team but will also give more people the confidence to relocate to our region, knowing they have a contemporary health service to care for them when they need it.
