The house is one of 5 situated within the integrated Viridian and Peppers Resort Project at Noosa Heads adjacent to the renowned Hastings St precinct and national park to the east. The client have a large extended family including nine grandchildren. Using thin, ‘veranda’ linear planning, the house weaves in-between the trees giving in-house privacy and separation while preserving the tree lined ridge. The kitchen needed to become the central social hub of the dwelling along with an increase in accommodation capacity. Maintaining the existing footprint, privacy considerations, western water views through the forest, and natural bush setting, the dark ‘fly mesh’ façade to the ‘bunkroom’ acts as a visually non-intrusive ‘shadow plane’ to the street. The Innovative ‘bunkroom’ layout gives demographic flexibility and refurbished bathrooms includes one with universal access. The interventions are sympathetic with the design integrity, patterning and colouring of the five existing houses within the landscape/streetscape.
In 2005, we purchased one of 5 houses within the Viridian and Peppers Project at Noosa Heads. The cranked linear plan gave privacy and separation for our family and capitalises on filtered ocean views through the forest. With the new configuration, two families comfortably spent 3 weeks there together, during the hot and humid month of January. As a result, we can resoundingly confirm that through this renovation, HMA have satisfied our brief.
