Media summary

Willowdale Sports Precinct is a new community hub for south-west Sydney that brings together sport, recreation and local culture. Designed by Sam Crawford Architects, the project responds to the area’s deep Indigenous history, drawing inspiration from archaeological evidence of ancient clay ovens once used for communal gathering and cooking.

The pavilion provides much more than basic sporting amenities, accommodating clubrooms, change rooms, a kiosk, BBQ facilities and spectator seating within a welcoming and flexible building. Generous shading, verandahs and outdoor rooms respond to the hot western Sydney climate and encourage year-round use.

Designed for inclusivity, the facility features unisex amenities and an adult Changing Places facility. Integrated artwork and landscape design reinforce a strong sense of place, making the precinct a valued social focus for the growing community.

The new sports amenities building at Willowdale Sports Complex seamlessly integrates the diverse needs of the community, from passive recreation to organised sport, within a single, inclusive facility. This integrated approach enhances accessibility and encourages broader community use.

The building provides facilities that are vibrant, modern and fit-for-purpose, creating a space that support a wide range of sporting codes and users throughout the year. The building sets a high benchmark for Council facilities across the City of Campbelltown for both function and aesthetics.
