New South Wales
The multi-purpose facility for Wiigulga has become the new heart of the community filled with an intrinsic local understanding of place.
A game changer for the community, the dynamic precinct has been brought to life through the building’s design which reflects the local Indigenous heritage as well as the multicultural mix of the Northern Beaches of Coffs Harbour.
The building’s positioning was designed to provide a beacon for visitors. Four key functional spaces make up the plan including the entry foyer, multi-purpose function room, the hall and performing arts space, plus an additional amenities pavilion to service the playing fields.
The multi-use spaces aim to be as efficient as possible to provide for a diverse and ever-changing community and the design intention was to help reinforce the strong history of teaching for the next generation providing a space that encourages growth and learning.
Populous brought their global experience and design expertise to lead design on our community-led project. The sheer scope of design work delivered by the Populous team in a short timeframe is a reflection of their passion for bringing projects to life, and the breadth of design expertise in their large team. Populous worked with Council and our community working group at every step to ensure the local flavour and vision was delivered into what we know will be an incredibly valued community facility for many decades to come. Populous met every milestone and I’d have no hesitation in recommending them.
