The Ruyton Girl’s School Performing Arts Centre and Library Resource Centre connects existing facilities within the campus and re-establishes a public face for the school in the residential streetscape of Selbourne Road. These connections fulfill the school’s North Precinct Masterplan and join together spaces between existing facilities and the new building across four levels. Along with specialist library-resource spaces, the design acknowledges the importance of the performing arts on students’ educational experience and the ‘adjunct learning outcomes’ that such a facility provides. With the input of specialist theatre consultants, educators, acousticians and theatre trades, a specialist building has been created that caters for those on stage, but also to students who want educational experiences behind the scenes – in lighting, theatre-tech, sound mixing, post-production and AV recording/integration.
