Studio Locale Architects set out with the task to create a secluded residential oasis that connected to the sites surroundings, while maintaining privacy for the residents. Key aspects of the site were the vast views of the southern Gold Coast coastline which we set out to take advantage of. Tugun Hill House challenges the current beachside home typology, drawing inspiration from the Gold Coast’s history of modernist architecture, while paying homage to the suburbs original character.
While the hilltop location offers stunning views, it also exposes the house to coastal elements. The design creates secluded spaces for residents to retreat, while still enjoying the natural outlook. A north-facing courtyard connects to the garden, and a long veranda promotes legible movement through the space. These features allow a natural migration within the property as weather changes throughout the day.
The home & place created by Studio Locale Architects has enriched our lives substantially. The use of the site allows us to have the beauty of an urban setting while feeling secluded & safe. As this was our first time working with an architect, we were blown away at the attention to detail and amount (ever single little thing) of consideration that is put into the design.
