The program was for a relaxed modest family house that embraced the outdoors and the ability for the children to enjoy all areas of the site. The entire area of the house is 344m2 which is reasonably modest
The architectural devise used here is Piloti style architecture which uses sculptural concrete piers to elevate the building above the ground, creating an open, usable space underneath and giving the structure a "floating" appearance. This devise enables the living area to be enclosed only by sliding glass doors that open out to the north facing garden loggia and pool area.
Operable external sun control blinds moderate the sun, and the sea breeze. The is both for the morning and afternoon sun.
The house is constructed entirely of masonry and concrete which results in a structure with minimal maintenance and will be entirely durable for several decades.
The residence has been perfectly designed and executed for our busy coastal family. Wide open spaces, architectural highlights, complete indoor-outdoor integration, supreme cross ventilation and natural light wherever you turn; the house is uplifting, calming and simultaneously accommodating of the bustle of family life.
Our young children credit the ’tree house,’ an upper multi-purpose room appearing to float amongst a huge gum, and the swimming pool with direct access to the beach laneway, as their favourites. The adults love the lounge – dining – kitchen – portico combination, which is perfect for entertaining and supervising, with complete visibility of the pool and yard.
