“The Grid”, designed by Victor Alcami, Director of Alcami Architecture, is a bold reimagining of Saber Astronautics’ office in Adelaide’s Lot 14 innovation district. Set within the heritage-listed Bice Building, the project integrates past and future, exploring the unseen forces that govern technology and space.
Drawing inspiration from 60s Superstudio, Alcami’s design features a checkered floor that dissolves spatial boundaries, creating an immersive experience that mirrors Saber’s role in the network of space technologies. Cinematic influences like Space Odyssey and Inception shape the space’s conceptual depth, while the design presents the office as a piece of art; raw space data inviting interpretation. This dynamic environment fosters innovation while remaining open to diverse meanings, echoing the ever-evolving nature of the space sector. Alcami Architecture has crafted more than just a workplace; The Grid is an intellectual and visual exploration of the forces shaping our relationship with space, technology, and our lives.
