“The Base”, located in Cobbitty, South-West Sydney, is a family home designed to respond to and celebrate its agricultural surroundings. Emphasizing timeless, functional design, the home fosters a strong connection to the rural landscape. The carefully selected materials palette of concrete, stone, natural timber, and glass ensures durability and minimal maintenance. Distinctive design elements, including concrete blades for privacy and a floating concrete hood, enhance both thermal comfort and sun shading while elevating the home’s architectural aesthetic. The layout effectively divides private and public spaces, with a dedicated guest area, a gallery-like foyer, and fluid indoor-outdoor connections. A collaborative approach to design and construction has resulted in a durable, practical, and minimalist space that stands as a benchmark for rural architecture. “The Base” has become a landmark in the area, setting a high standard for design and deepening the local appreciation for both the built environment and its rural context.
We still pinch ourselves every day at the incredible space we call home. The exterior is stunning, but more importantly, the interior meets all our needs as a busy family of five. The spaces are well-proportioned, offering room for both family time and solitude. Spending time with extended family and friends was a key part of our vision, which the design perfectly captures.
We are beyond grateful to JMA for delivering our brief into the home of our dreams, a home we are enormously proud of and one that ticks all our boxes.Client perspective
