Media summary

Terracotta House is a study in how a home can feel both new and already known. Set in Malvern, it reimagines an Edwardian for a young family who’d recently relocated, using familiar materials and quiet restraint to create a sense of immediate belonging. Rather than chasing novelty, the project leans into what endures: warmth, tactility, and the comfort of things that age well.

Terracotta becomes the emotional anchor — a material with deep local familiarity, reinterpreted with contemporary clarity so the old and new read as one continuous story. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and lived-in from day one, designed to absorb the rhythms of family life without feeling precious. It’s architecture that doesn’t shout for attention, but rewards time: a home that settles, softens and gathers meaning as the family does — grounded in memory, shaped by context, and built for longevity.

Everyday, our family experiences the positive impact of many large and small design decisions by Lande. Simple interventions, elegantly executed, have led to significant experiential change.  The standouts: additional ways to move through the house removed day-to-day friction; appropriate and beautiful surfaces perform so well in their desired use; beautiful and strategic joinery keeps the house clear of clutter; specific spaces for art allow us to re-engage with much-loved memories; visual access to our garden provides calm to our family; and the ability to truly control light and temperature gives us control of our environment. We love our house.
