Media summary

The Innovation Centre is a contemporary design response to a highly refined Client functional brief informed by a progressive secondary school educational pedagogy. The Centre is a space for ideating, collaborating, testing and prototyping.

A central multi-purpose ‘forum’ space provides for a direct instruction area, collaborative working, central gathering and presentation area; also access to all other flanking functional spaces. Other spaces include a digital technology classroom, virtual reality classroom, multi-media production space with recording booths, ‘maker space’ and agricultural science laboratory, small and large meeting rooms, also a staff room.

The building layout responds to the introspective brief of highly connected internal areas.  Natural light filtration is managed through extensive glazing, which also assists with passive supervision of all parts of the building.  The finishes reflect the innovation centric brief, provide way finding, incorporate colours that support creativity and energy, and manage the acoustic requirements of the multi-function spaces.

The new Innovation Centre has delivered a contemporary educational space designed to inspire the next generation of innovators, creators and thinkers. The Centre is equipped with a range of cutting-edge features designed to foster creativity, collaboration and innovation. Including a Maker Space tailored for hands-on learning, breakout zones for teamwork and reflection, small work pods and a large open area that encourages big ideas. The Centre also contains an Agricultural Science Lab and virtual reality room.

The Centre has become a place for academic learning in traditional lessons where the school’s vision of fostering creativity, collaboration and enterprise is.
