Gadigal People of the Eora Nation

Sirius stands as a surviving example of Brutalist architecture, renowned for its bold geometry, expressed concrete construction, and iconic stature. These distinctive elements underpin BVN’s redesign, with the original façade and proportions retained and restored, complemented by thoughtful interventions.
Following the sale of the site to JDH Capital, BVN won the original design competition in 2019, and were appointed to retain, restore and reimagine the building. Both developer and architect were united in their mission to retain the architectural integrity of the building originally designed in the late 1970s by Tao Gofers.
The redeveloped Sirius features 75 apartments as well as the restored Phillip Room common areas, new landscaping, commercial spaces, street-level cafes, and wellness facilities. The development is relinked back into its surroundings with a new forecourt and through-site link, enhancing pedestrian access with a new public lift that improves connections from Cumberland Street to The Rock’s lower levels.
The reimagined Sirius building retains the incredible amenity of the apartments looking both east and west to the harbour while integrating into the vibrant life of the Rocks precinct.
It is an iconic building and the result is an extraordinary development that sets itself apart. It skilfully extends the building in a sympathetic manner and incorporates the amenity of contemporary living. The activation of the surrounding streets and walkways has made a significant improvement to the character of the area.
