Media summary

it’s a beach house…. its core objective is to persuade you to unwind
to reshape your mindset
to remind you of why on earth you are doing all this
to give you a chance to rejuvenate
to stop and smell the salty taste of the australian coastline
to step outside and say hello to passing strangers, pat their dogs and talk about how much xmas cake you have eaten or what the swell’s doing
to sit at the kitchen table, to chew the fat with whoever is sitting there as well
relaxed and unpretentious, well planned to allow things to unravel…

‘She Sells, Sea Shells’ on the Victorian Surf Coast, evokes the nostalgic fibro beach shack that we recognise from childhood memory. Multiplicity tread a confident and atypical path, establishing an exemplar of what a beach home can offer; a place to live simply, enjoy informality, explore architectural quirk, connect with place and others, embrace abandon. Materials are composed and carefully detailed, speaking to the craft of their assemblage. A dedication to sustainability is evident through prudent spatial planning, recycled and renewable materials, adoption of passive solar principles and energy efficient technology. The specificity of the interior palette; collected shell-encrusted cabinetry, vintage 70’s carpet upholstery, wood wool ceilings, cork floors, and FRP panelling is refreshing. It’s hard not to feel the joy and sense of whimsy embedded in the dwellings expression, quite clearly a reflection of the owners identity and the tight-knit client-architect relationship which has evolved over multiple projects.

the house sits quietly on the block, connecting to the outside world exactly as l had hoped
it’s a beach house after all
a friend has described it as functional art
it’s layered and tactile, with every aspect beautifully resolved
it is quiet and calming
light, cool in summer and warm in winter
there are spaces for everyone to hangout
and for those wanting to rest up, and sleep in, sections can be closed off…
in summary, it is inviting and easy to live in
a jewel without being pretentious
and is it’s a joy to be there
