Media summary

Draped in greenery, with luminous, calm interiors, Rochester Street Office is a thoughtful and straightforward, respectful and confident workplace.

Set over three levels in the back streets of Botany, the purpose-built offices for the Robert Plumb Collective showcases intelligent design, material re-use and the power of collaboration. Its carefully orchestrated floor plates carve out a range of light-filled work areas, casual spaces and garden terraces that elevate this niche arena of small-medium business premises.

Created by five design business at their peak – Allied Office (architects), Akin Atelier (interiors), Dangar Barin Smith (landscape architects), Second Edition (reclaimed materials design) and Robert Plumb Collective (client/builder) – it’s a sign of things to come in this rapidly regenerating bayside Sydney suburb.

The offices at Rochester Street are an exemplar of collaboration much like the occupants of the space whose diverse but aligned objectives bring together a wonderful collage of ideas under the one roof.

Every opportunity has been maximised to showcase refinement and resolution in the finer details. From the tenacious reclaimed material choices to the innovative integration of services and the luscious landscape, the team have collectively considered every decision, making this project a calm and pleasant space to work in.

Sustainable choices in materials, biophilic design, and renewable energy sources have been maximised and celebrated, setting a new benchmark in design for this scale of project. Rochester Street Office is a testament to the power of experimentation, collaboration, and diverse approaches, all of which seamlessly converge to create a stunning and harmonious outcome.

“We wanted a space that was filled with light and provided a calm environment that makes coming into the office a joy. We were also interested in testing out new materials, building performance and ensuring that the design took advantage of all the skills in our collective. We had a great time working with some very talented people and couldn’t be happier with the outcome.” — Robert Plumb Collective.
