Media summary

Permanent Camping 3 is a pair of minimalist ‘A’-frame cabins set on a working sheep farm outside Orange. Designed as a sculptural, practical retreat shaped by climate, economy, and landscape they were refined over years of iteration. Each cabin distils living down to its essentials; bed, deck, fireplace, bathroom, a place to sit, delivering a quietly contemplative experience rooted in simplicity. The structures are entirely steel-framed and Corten-clad to withstand the region’s harsh conditions: snowy winters, hot bushfire-prone summers, strong winds, and termites. Elevated lightly above ground, the rusty steel shapes blend into the rural palette while maximising airflow and durability. Built by the owner and his son, the cabins are lined in recycled ironbark, and lit by circular skylights, and a fully louvred bathroom, all completely off grid. PC3 offers a new vision of a rural cabin where architecture frames nature and life is pared back to elemental pleasures.

With the cabins what we now have is an opportunity for guests to enjoy a unique experience in bold design on our cattle farm in a region we love. The buildings sit comfortably, touch on rural life and adventure allowing people to relax in a truly special place.  It is the subtle touches, guests being able to shower in a setting that harks back to the grating in a shearing shed, the soring steel fly sheets and timber lining give a feeling of reverence that does not go away.  Each time we step inside, there is a beautiful calmness.
