Mercedes College Arts & Sports Precinct | JPE Design Studio

The brief for the Mercedes College Sports and Arts Precinct was to create a contemporary and flexible place for whole school gatherings with a focus on sport and the arts, providing a dedicated theatre and gymnasium. Aligned with Mercedes College Mercy Keys, the design is inspired by three key themes: body, mind and spirit. Movement, performance, and opportunities to gather underpin the physical experience of new and adapted buildings. Integrating with the surrounding landscape the project endeavours to encourage student wellbeing and liturgical tradition whilst connecting to nature and place.
The design expresses a sense of place and hillside setting through form, colour and expansion of the campus student life. The design utilises the sloping site, creating a multi-purpose learning landscape with an integrated approach to indoor and outdoor functionality and materiality whilst connecting to expanded views and the historic botanical landscape and hedge.
