‘Maree House’ is about creating a family’s forever home and sanctuary, and letting their personality shine through. A close collaboration between client and architect, the project embraces the individuality of the client which is reflected in the spaces and materials. A lap pool poking into the dining area is the ultimate water feature. A vibrant pink staircase connects spaces outdoors. Curved stone, zany wallpaper and warm interior finishes create character and texture. Zoned so that each family member has their own space, there are tidy central areas and untidy concealable areas for work and play. Gardens, courtyards and balconies ensure that each room is always connected to outdoor space.
‘Maree House’ is the client’s dream home, to ‘spark joy’ in their daily lives. The house reflects who they are, and enhances how they live.
My favourite area of the house is the library. I love that it is a serene light-filled area where we can read quietly with a view of the garden and pool. And the fireplace in winter! I love that I am surrounded by books.
I love the open kitchen attached to the laundry so chores are pretty streamlined. And I can supervise the pool. I love the functionality. I love that I can unpack the dishwasher without taking a step. And I love that everything is beautiful – the stone, cabinetry, lights, the white brick against the pink staircase, wallpaper, curves…
