Main Ridge House, located on the Mornington Peninsula, is a timber‑framed residence conceived through a decades‑long collaboration with its clients. The design is organised as two elevated pavilions: a rear cantilevered volume accommodating the primary living spaces, and a front pavilion housing private rooms. Locally sourced blackbutt defines the architectural language, expressed through exposed beams, shiplap-lined surfaces and expansive glazing that frames views across the surrounding vineyard and bushland.
The project choreographs movement through a series of calibrated volumetric shifts—from the compressed verandah entry to the dramatic expansion of the main living space—enhancing spatial perception and connection to landscape. Hovering lightly above the terrain, the pavilions minimise site impact while opening generous sightlines to the topography.
Internally, a continuous timber grain unifies the interior, with precise detailing and modulated natural light creating a serene, materially rich environment deeply attuned to its setting.
The symmetry, simplicity and elegant volumes create the ideal space in which to plan and create. The house is big enough and no bigger than it needs to be. Its spaces and beautifully executed detail are a quiet joy to behold from within and frame the view outside perfectly.  From here we feel immersed in nature, connected with our vineyard operations and part of the vineyard landscape. We do not feel imposed upon it.  This house, with its low impact on the ground and  pared back design that delivers climate control through thoughtful architecture, reflects how we should live. Â
