Hunt Architects’ Perth Studio, located within the State Heritage-listed Commonwealth Bank Building, represents a significant milestone in the practice’s evolution. The design thoughtfully merges modern elements with the building’s historical fabric, creating a space that encourages creativity, collaboration and celebrates the businesses growth.
In collaboration with linguists at the Noongar Boodjar Language Cultural Aboriginal Corporation, four bold themes were developed as design concepts for the gathering spaces. Honouring the Traditional Owners of the land, they’re known as Boodjar (Country), Bilya (River) and Marlak (Bush), and the focus room known as Bidi (Path).
The Hunt Architects Perth Studio has evolved into more than a workplace. It has redefined how the team collaborate, creating an environment that fosters stronger teamwork. With the added capability to host events, the Studio also serves as a valuable platform for engaging with the broader architectural community.
Significant buildings and great spaces are there to be shared.
Whilst the best outcomes often occur with the client and Architect highly aligned it is difficult to delineate the two roles when they stand as one. As a client the ultimate benefit comes by intimately understanding where the practice comes from and where it is going, and designing a space that that expresses both this and the values by which they are defined. The environment supports the way in which we work, collaborate and learn, but perhaps more importantly it has become a catalyst for nuanced change as we evolve.

The Australian Institute of Architects acknowledges First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, waters, and skies of the continent now called Australia.
We express our gratitude to their Elders and Knowledge Holders whose wisdom, actions and knowledge have kept culture alive.
We recognise First Nations peoples as the first architects and builders. We appreciate their continuing work on Country from pre-invasion times to contemporary First Nations architects, and respect their rights to continue to care for Country.
