The Woiworrung of the Kulin Nation
Victoria
Genazzano FCJ College Vaucluse Student Reception provides a new ‘face’ for Genazzano College in Kew, elevating the experience of arrival for students entering the campus on the Mont Victor Road frontage. Constructed around a narrative sequence of spaces including the student Reception Hall and the Wintergarden, an indigenous garden, and renvoeted interiors, the design draws students into the campus, disseminating flows of arriving pupils to the various parts of the site while sovling a range of accessibility challenges.
The main feature of the new student Reception Hall is a gently curved, proprietary suspsended brick screen that mediates between the palette of materials found across the campus in heritage and other legacy buildings. The transparent skin creates a dappled shade in the reception hall, and gives the building a unique and uniquely porous expression in the streetscape.
The College envisioned a project that enhanced the street entrance, creating a welcoming, inclusive space with disability access and links to key areas through a covered plaza. This space includes artworks that celebrate our connection to the Sisters FCJ and inspire reflection on their legacy. It also features an Indigenous garden, showcasing native plants honouring the land’s heritage and promoting sustainability. We thank the many teams for their hard work in bringing this vision to life. Today, our Genazzano FCJ College students, staff, and families gather in the space, embracing its beauty and significance in fostering community and connection.
