Western Australia
Forrest Hall is an accommodation facility for recipients of the Forrest Scholarship and visiting academics. It has been designed as a precinct that inspires and enhances their on-campus studying experience.
It is located on the eastern gateway of the University of Western Austalia’s campus, positioned between Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) to the south and a busy arterial road to the north. The facility has been designed to preserve views from key approaches to the campus.
At ground level, a public plaza provides a permeable pedestrian link to the river and a legible entry point to the buildings,a plaza divides the programme into separate wings for the scholars and the academics.
A series of stone screens and green walls filter light and noise to the naturally ventilated walkways that provide access to the accommodation.
The Forrest Hall Precinct is the result of a unique collaboration between the University of Western Australia, the Forrest Research Foundation, the Minderoo Foundation and KHA.
The final outcome is a collection of crafted buildings which sit beautifully on the edge of Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River).
These buildings have become a place of shared experiences, learning and knowledge for residents, academics and the wider community, both local and global.
Forrest Hall provides a distinguished presence to the eastern gateway of the campus, representing UWA’s contribution to the creation of a world-leading collaborative centre of research in WA.
