Embrace Women’s Health is a medical practice located in Armadale. Our objective was to create a sustainable and high-quality healthcare facility that promotes wellness and patient experience while respecting and preserving the historical value of the existing building. Underpinning this were several key principles, which included comfort and sustainability by harvesting natural light, clean air and rainwater.
Integration of spatial elements and workflow mechanisms and the creation of a welcoming entrance in the form of a contemporary interpretation of the classic Victorian garden room to emphasise wellness. Additionally, accessibility for all without much intervention to the existing building and the restoration of facades and verandahs to preserve its historical context was imperative. Our concern was to retain the existing Victorian era building footprint, to insert a contemporary addition, and by this to delineate between old and new, presenting the new as if emerging out from and breaking through the old.
