The new building program at Duncraig Senior High School expands capacity for specialist teaching, particularly supporting Science and English curriculums. The project introduces state-of-the-art Science and English facilities, featuring 11 specialised laboratories and 16 modern classrooms, increasing the school's capacity to 1,850 students.
The scope of work included new Science and English Learning Blocks located within a pocket of heavily degraded vegetation, as well as refurbishment of the existing 1970s buildings, which included new staff facilities, IT laboratories, and printing, painting and sculpture art studios. The facilities have been completed with 100 additional car bays, including electric car charging bays, street parking, and soft and hard landscaping works.Â
The masterplan solution takes into consideration existing building locations and their functional relationships. With Studio approach responds to challenging topography and existing woodland, creating a new street presence and pedestrian approach, seamlessly integrating new and existing buildings within the campus.
The team successfully created functional, beautiful, and comfortable spaces that met our needs as a large state high school. The two new state-of-the-art double story buildings fit into the landscape beautifully, incorporating cultural artwork throughout. The engineered buildings are connected via a covered bridge and feature outside terraced seating, which can be used for outdoor lessons and events. The new and refurbished spaces are vibrant and modern for many generations of students and community.
