The new Flexible-Learning Hub is an anchor for the further growth and enrichment of the existing Chisholm Catholic College. The considered adaptive reuse and refurbishment reinforces new and existing connections between the school learning and community hearts, whilst the architectural design establishes a dynamic, flexible vision for the growth of the campus.
This new space establishes a language to encourage innovative teaching and learning more aligned with a tertiary facility to promote and inspire students as they progress on their journey towards higher education. The architecture responds through a dynamic reimagining of the existing function of a traditional lecture theatre, into a series of modern learning terraces, whilst externally the link bridge provides cues towards future external refreshment and upgrade to the traditional campus palette that is both bold but considerate of the existing context.
From an under-used lecture theatre that would sit empty most of the week, to one of the most in demand teaching spaces on campus, the transformation of this space reflects immense creativity and a bold vision. We have been surprised by the take-up of the space and seeing the different ways that staff and students respond to the different work areas. The old lecture theatre has been replaced with a fantastic and contemporary space, which aligns with our vision for maximising the use of our facilities whilst providing the highest quality learning space for our students.
