Media summary

Cedar House is a quietly powerful example of Bush Modernism, carefully renewed by Cadence & Co to support contemporary family life while respecting its architectural integrity.

Defined by restraint, durability and a deep connection to the Terrey Hills bushland setting, the home has been thoughtfully evolved rather than reimagined. Working closely with clients who had lived in the house for over two decades, the approach focused on a precise and considered edit.

The kitchen was transformed into a social heart through bespoke timber joinery and a refined lighting strategy. Extended roof planes introduced elevated outdoor terraces, creating new zones for retreat and gathering while strengthening connections to the landscape.

A carefully resolved material palette references the existing fabric while adding warmth and subtle refinement. Cedar House emerges as a renewal grounded in clarity and continuity, supporting everyday rituals, connection and longevity in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Every subtle intervention responds to the family’s lifestyle requirements, allowing the home to evolve alongside their needs – all the while preserving the integrity, warmth and nuances of an architecturally significant house they have cherished for more than 20 years.

The renewal enhances daily life by balancing connection, privacy and relationship with the surrounding landscape. Open-plan living and a remodelled kitchen support gathering and family rituals, while newly created terrace zones provide casual retreat and immersion in nature. Strong visual and physical links to the outdoors, together with a tactile, timeless material palette, create a calm, inviting environment.
