The Bunya Centre is a new day hospital in Toowoomba providing elective surgery and related services. It is the first stage of the new Baillie Henderson site master plan which is delivering the new Toowoomba Hospital. Nestled into a verdant hillside landscape, the Bunya Centre blends harmoniously into its surrounds and is quietly understated. The main entrance materiality reinterprets the adjacent heritage listed precinct and creates a memorable arrival experience. The rusty red perforated metal sunscreens reference the colour of the local soil and are imprinted with the silhouette of the majestic bunya pine trees that crown the campus hilltop skyline.
The internal design balances clinical hygiene and efficiency with the wellbeing of patients and staff. The layout emphasises clear wayfinding, a strong visual connection to the exterior and natural light. The interior has a calm, restorative atmosphere that supports the healing process. It’s a welcome addition to the community.
