A former arts hotel, Brooklyn is a significant estate embellished with unique Tudor Revival ornamentation.
The original two storey brick terrace house was constructed in 1860.
Thirty years later, a ground floor loggia and verandah were added, and above, a first floor balcony was established.
Through the concept of a continuous linear verandah, this 20 metre insertion is positioned centrally to bring light into the former dark center of the building via an integrated skylight, while providing shading to the new kitchen and living addition.
Above, the verandah becomes a garden, framing views to the urban rooftops beyond.
This contemporary addition and extensive yet careful restoration works follow the rhythm and attributes of the original residence.
This is further celebrated through a quiet material palette of brick, porcelain and steel.
We are inspired by the history of our unique property and what has now been created by the architecture of Trower Falvo Architects.
They have carefully considered every detail and it is an absolute joy to call Brooklyn our home.
