Wurrundjeri

Banum Warrik Primary School is a vibrant community hub in Kalkallo that blends culture, connection and inclusivity. Named from the Woi-wurrung words for grassy plains, it honours Traditional Owners by incorporating Indigenous animal themes into its design, such as Bandicoot Learning Burrow and Dingo Learning Den. The school fosters exploration and creativity through flexible classrooms, collaborative spaces and equitable access to resources. Shared facilities, including a gymnasium and sports oval, extend the school’s value to the broader community. The architectural design reflects the local environment with a material palette of brick, metal-clad walls and timber finishes, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Large single-span roofs define the school’s distinctive built form, reinforcing its identity as a community landmark. The design integrates sustainable systems and passive design features, creating an adaptable and inclusive environment where students thrive, culture is honoured and a legacy is created for future generations.
