Situated in Acton on the Eastern shore, Aspect House sits on a greenfield 2.3ha battle axe lot, oriented north northeast with views towards Tigerhead bay and beyond. Mount Rumney forms the backdrop with a gentle sloping topography sloping towards the view. The site is surrounded by rural properties, with wispy grasses and light wooded areas forming the site characteristics.
A large four-bedroom home with generous living areas and multiple external areas formed the clients brief, a couple with two teenage children. Views from each room, exhibition space for an extensive art collection and a robust, durable material palette were the primary requests by the Client.
Strategically arranged as a narrow, linear building and sited on the high point to the rear of the block and parallel to the contours, the siting maximises solar gain and views whilst minimizing site excavation.
We tasked Preston Lane to build us a house that would be like nothing we would design ourselves – being rather conservative. Teh end result brings us so much pleasure both in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of living – its beautiful and comfortable- so easy to control temperature and makes us feel like we are in a special place all the time. It functions wonderfully and leaves people impressed with every visit.
