The contoured, sculptural form of the two-storey pedestal base for 272 Hedges Avenue in the Gold Coast, Australia, is inspired by wind and water patterns on rock and sand, creates a contextual connection to the streetscape and coastal parklands.
As urban areas become increasingly developed, they disconnect humanity from nature. This pedestal forges a more organic relationship between people and the built and natural environments for the betterment of the area and community.
Contreras Earl Architecture studied structures, patterns and behaviours of nature, and used advanced design and production techniques to achieve this site-specific solution.
