1 Elizabeth, an innovative integrated transport development, has renewed a city block into a pulsing civic heart that links Martin Place with the north-eastern CBD.
The strategy to elevate the curvilinear tower with a glazed side core has unlocked extensive benefits for both public and occupant. The open, inclusive, art-filled and inspiring public plaza connects with the surrounding city, and the seamlessly integrated metro station enjoys natural daylight and fresh air.
The lower levels provide diverse spaces for events, retail and exhibitions with areas for people to discover, connect or relax. The future-facing financial headquarters above is enriched and activated with central atria, connecting stairs, glazed lifts and landscaped terraces. The silver faceted tower echoes 50 Martin Place’s glass dome, being respectful of the past whilst looking to the future.
This new Sydney place has revitalised and refocused the city’s urban fabric.
1 Elizabeth stands as a testament to our project vision of creating a place for everyone. The integration of commercial office, retail spaces and a reinvigorated public domain, with a design that complements the integrated heritage building at 50 Martin Place, creates an activated and inclusive space for the community and our people, whilst honouring the location’s rich civil, cultural and commercial heritage. The successful collaboration between client and delivery partners along with a human-centred design approach enabled us to collectively create a world-class building for our new global headquarters as well as public spaces that enrich our city.
